Drafts in Cascade CMS

A draft in Cascade CMS serves as a 'snapshot' of your unsaved changes to a page. Cascade automatically creates a draft as you edit, allowing you to review the modifications without creating a new version of the page.

Key Characteristics of Drafts

  • Only one draft can exist for a piece of content at a given time.

  • Drafts are user-specific. Only the user who created the draft can see it.

  • When a user has a draft of a page, selecting Edit will bring up the draft version of that content.

  • Cascade does not publish drafts, ensuring your changes are not made public until you're ready.

  • You can view all your drafts under the Drafts section of the My Content menu.

Create and Manage Drafts

  1. Navigate to your desired page and click Edit.

  2. As you modify the content, Cascade automatically saves these changes as a draft.

  3. After making changes, select Preview Draft to see a draft preview of your alterations.

  4. Click on the blue highlighted Draft text next to the page name to compare the draft with the current live page.

  5. Depending on your review, choose to Resume Editing, Submit the draft, or Discard it.

  6. All your drafts can be viewed under the Drafts section of the My Content menu.

Working Copies in Cascade CMS

Checking out or locking an asset produces a working copy. This feature allows you exclusive access to work on the asset and prevents other users from editing it simultaneously.

Key Characteristics of Working Copies

  • Similar to drafts, only one working copy can exist for an asset at a time.

  • A working copy can be transferred to another user, provided the recipient also has write access.

  • Working copies are also not published automatically.

  • You can view all your working copies under the Locked Assets section of the My Content menu.

Check Out/Lock Assets and Manage Working Copies

If you do not lock a Draft, it has the potential of getting published if someone else publishes a different page on the site.

  1. Navigate to the asset and select ...More > Check-out/Lock.

  2. Upon locking an asset, you can preview the working copy. It's shown first by default, and you can switch to the Current Version using the dropdown next to the title.

  3. Depending on your review, choose to Commit Changes, Break Lock, or Reassign Lock.

  4. All your working copies can be viewed under the 'Locked Assets' section of the 'My Content' menu.
