Redirects are a useful tool in Cascade CMS, used to add a link on your menu (to a page that lives elsewhere). The process to create a new redirect page is similar to adding a standard interior page. However, you could also edit an existing page on your site and convert it to a redirect page. Review the two options below.

Table of Contents

Option 1: Build a Redirect Page from Scratch

Create the Folder for Redirect Page

  1. In the Site Content tree on the left, click on the folder name where you wish to create the new folder.

  2. Look for a red plus sign in the topmost header area of the page, and click on Add Content.

  3. From the Add Content menu, select New Folder.

  4. Fill in the Folder Name and Display Name.

  5. Click Submit to save the folder to the CMS.

  6. Your new folder should be highlighted in the asset tree to the left. Publish the folder.

The Folder Name will generate the page URL, therefore, it should be all lowercase letters separated by hyphens, without underscores, special characters (e.g. #$%$%^&), or any spaces.

For more information, see How to Add a Folder

Create the Standard Interior Page with Redirect Enabled

  1. In the

Site Content tree on the left, click on the folder name you just created.

You must create a folder before you can create a page.

  1. Look for a red plus sign in the topmost header area of the page, and click on

Add Content.

  1. Inside the

Site Assets folder, select the standard Interior Page template from the dropdown menu.

  1. Leave the default

Page Name of index.

There should only be one index page per folder. You can create sub-folders within a folder, however, each sub-folder can only contain one index page.

  1. Fill out the

Metadata information for the page.

Please refer to our Best Practice Blogs and Websites web page for tips on how to fill out the Metadata.

  1. In the section called

Redirect, check the Yes box to enable the redirect.

  1. Choose either the internal Cascade page (Internal Link) OR fill in the URL if it is an external link. (including the

http://)

  1. Click

Preview Draft. After previewing the draft, click Submit to save the page to CMS.

  1. The page (with redirect) has been successfully saved to the CMS. You must now

Publish your page.

10. Select one or more of the outputs to Publish to the destinations selected.

Publish a folder level up to ensure the appropriate menus are updated.

For more information, see Left Navigation.

Option 2: Change an Existing Page to a Redirect Page

  1. In the Site Content tree on the left, select the page you wish to

edit (convert to a redirect page).

  1. Once the page has loaded, click

Edit.

You can also edit a page by right-clicking on the page name, and selecting the Edit option from the context menu.

  1. In the section called

Redirect, check the Yes box to enable the redirect.

  1. Choose either the internal Cascade page (Internal Link) OR fill in the URL if it is an external link. (including the

http://)

If the redirect is enabled, there is no need to delete any of the existing page content. The redirect will override any existing content.

  1. Click

Preview Draft. After previewing the draft, click Submit to save the page to CMS.

  1. The page (with redirect) has been successfully saved to the CMS. You must now

Publish your page.

  1. Select one or more of the outputs to

Publish to the destinations selected.

Publish a folder level up to ensure the appropriate menus are updated.
